About this painting:
Three-year-old Brisbane born Sunday Chut is a second generation Australian with a South Sudanese ex- child soldier dad and a First Nations mum. I have known her since she was born and she and her father often pop in for visits at my home in West End. This piece reflects the simplicity of a child’s joy and baggage-free existence. Underneath, it represents diversity and optimism in a forward-looking Australia, shrugging off with youthful innocence a colonial past of which she is blissfully unaware as she enjoys a big glass of water at the iconic Boundary Hotel in West End – no baggage. This Art work was entered into the Brisbane Portrait Art Competition 2022.
